Honrenji (本蓮寺)

Honrenji (本蓮寺) is a Nichiren Buddist temple located in the Katase District of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture.
It is said the temple was founded in 595 by Gigen (義玄). It was reconstructed in 1184 by Minamoto no Yoritomo.
In 1271, Nichiren rested at the temple when he escaped persecution. During the Kagen era, Nisshuu (日秀) converted the temple from the Shingon Shu to Nichiren Shu.

The temple is one of the Ryukoji Rinban Hachikaji (龍口寺輪番八ヶ寺), the eight temples located in Katase and Koshigoe Districts that used to take turns looking after the temple of Ryukoji (龍口寺).
