Fujisawa Ukiyo-e Museum (藤澤浮世絵館)
Ukiyo-e is Japanese woodblock printing art that flourished during the Edo period and is said to be one of the major factors that started the Japonisme art movement in Europe in the 19th century, influencing many artists including Vincent van Gogh. Katsushika Hokusai (1760?-1849) and Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) are among the well-known ukiyo-e artists worldwide. In 1980, Fumiaki Kure, the former president of Nihon University, donated his ukiyo-e collection to the City of Fujisawa to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the municipalization. Since then, the city has collected ukiyo-e related to Fujisawa which are on display at the Fujisawa Ukiyo-e Museum, along with related materials including old postcards and drawings.
